Santa, all I want for Christmas is thick, voluminous hair

Aren’t you sick of using a whole battery of hair products – shampoos, hair oils, cream-color – that seem not to work? After all, nothing sells like hair and beauty products. And the reason for it is obvious: all of us face some kind of problems with our hair – hair loss, graying of hair, greasy, dull, frizzy hair or split-ends.

And the truth is if we are to admit, that sometimes we spend more than half of our paychecks in the salon trying to revive our sullen locks.

Hair fall is one of the commonest hair problems faced today; split-ends and dryness come a close second. To rescue us from hair fall or dull and lifeless hair I’ve listed below some extremely beneficial home remedies that have helped many times bring back life and shine to my hair.

Old-fashioned hot oil treatment works best

So warm a little oil – any natural oil (olive, canola, coconut or castor) in a small bowl and gently massage it into your scalp. Leave it on for a few hours and then shampoo it off. Nothing works better than massaging some oil into your scalp. This circulatory motion helps increase the oxygen and nutrient supply to your scalp and arrests hair fall.

Eat Salmon and Sweet Potatoes

Fish like salmons, sardines and mackerels are packed with omega-3 fatty acids which help hair to be shiny and thick. Omega-3 fatty acids are not naturally produced in our body so we have to rely on dietary sources.

Sweet potatoes are also rich in an antioxidant called beta-carotene which helps protect against dry, dull hair. It also encourages the glands in your scalp to produce an oily fluid called sebum that prevents hair from drying out. Other orange colored vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupes and mangoes are also rich in beta-carotene.

Want a healthy, split-ends free hair? Try eating spinach and citrus fruitsBrittle hair is treated with Spinach and Citrus Fruits

In your battle against brittle hair, what leads the army is Spinach! Like so many dark green leafy vegetables, spinach is full of amazing nutrients. It has tons of vitamin A, iron, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. All these nutrients keep your scalp and hair moisturized and prevents breakage.

Vitamin C-rich citrus fruits and veggies like lemon, orange, sweet lime and guava help build collagen which is highly important for hair growth. It also helps strengthen hair by assisting iron absorption in our body.

Keen on thick voluminous hair?  Try the zinc and proteins

What you need for fullness is Zinc. When you don’t have enough of this mineral in your diet, you can have hair loss – even in your eyelashes! Cells that build hair rely on zinc to help them work efficiently and well. Foods which are known to have high zinc content are oysters, beef, crab, lobster, nuts, pumpkin seeds and fortified cereal.

Another essential nutrient requirement for thickness is proteins. When your diet does not have enough proteins, hair growth slows down. To have thick voluminous hair you need to have protein-rich food like eggs, sprouts, dairy products, fish, and chicken.

So ladies there you go: simple tips that are extremely effective! What’s even better is that all of these things can be found in our kitchen.  And as Christmas is a few weeks away, keep in mind that the right nutrition is not only efficient for your hair but it is also making the skin glow. Enjoy!
