The Dermal Roller: What Is It & Does It Really Work?

Sure by now you must have heard about dozens of methods and alternatives treatments to stop hair thinning and hair loss. It is one problem that affects more and more people in the UK and studies show that about three-quarters of adults in their twenties (77%) are concerned about experiencing hair loss. Today I am going to talk about the new dermal roller – the LED technology for home use – considered to be the best and most convenient alternative for fighting back against hair loss.

What is a Derma Roller?

Discover new dermal roller - the LED technology for home use – considered to be the best and most convenient alternative for fighting back against hair lossA dermal roller is a handheld device with a wheel attached, outfitted with tiny needles, just a few millimeters long. The device is rolled over the skin, causing the needles to press against the tissue. The Derma-rolling has gained notoriety worldwide due to its results in stimulating new growth on the scalp, with the procedure mostly done in hair growth clinics.

Nowadays, after years of research, we have access to the Nutrigro Scalp roller for home use. It is a plastic device just over 1 inch wide for you to use in the comfort of your home. It has 540 small metal needles (although some larger needle rollers are available) of 0.3 mm in length.  Want to know the best part? The Red LED Scalp Roller works about 5 times faster than the normal Scalp rollers available on the market as the 633 mm Red light is believed to accelerate the rate of cell growth.

How the Derma Roller Works

When the needles are rolled along the skin, they cause minor surface wounds to the tissue. The body then must work to produce new skin in the area of the wound and releases the human growth hormone and other chemicals to assist with this process. Applying it to areas of hair loss or hair thinning encourages the body to regenerate and heal. This works to stimulate hair re-growth in areas of hair thinning by encouraging local blood circulation and hence nutrients to the follicles. It is thought improved blood circulation in the scalp may also help reduce levels of DHT in this scalp by removing it from the papilla or hair root. The presence of DHT is associated with hair loss in men. A  dermal roller works by getting the skin to repair itself. Under the scalp it works on follicles, the part from which hair grows, to restore normality. To create healthy tissue the human body also produces a substance called collagen. This promotes healthy follicles to counteract and reverse hair thinning and hair loss. In clinical studies after extensive use, when a derma roller was paired with minoxidil on the scalp, users have shown dramatic results in scalp health and hair growth.

Nutrigro treatment uses the Scalp roller device followed by the Nutrigro Serum, designed to be used daily on the scalp. Nutrigro Hair Serum is scientifically formulated to contain botanical complexes, which keep the hair rigid and break resistant and help to clear the buildup of dead cells around the follicles allowing growth of existing hair. The formula is rich in vitamins and minerals to help maintain the growth of existing hair while the sugar beet Betaine in the Serum improves the production of collagen making the hair bulb stronger.

The skin “micro-channels” caused by the Scalp roller action do close relatively quickly so the serum does need to be applied straight away.

Considering Micro Needling

If you’re interested in trying micro needling, you may want to purchase the home kit first before considering clinical derma roller treatments. If you do choose to purchase your own dermal roller, be sure to follow the instructions carefully to get the best results. If you’re still not sure whether or not the dermal roller is right for you, consult your doctor for an opinion. The best chance of success is to maintain your Scalp roller treatment daily, eat healthily, particularly what is called in Ayurveda, ‘cooling’ foods such as salad and yogurt due to the fact that for growth of hair one needs the 22 amino acids that make up hair – as hair is 97% protein plus vitamins and minerals.
